  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 tacos 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs white fish fillets (like cod or tilapia), cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup beer or sparkling water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 810 corn or flour tortillas
  • For the Cilantro Lime Slaw:
  • 3 cups shredded cabbage mix
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional Toppings: avocado slices, salsa, hot sauce, lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cilantro Lime Slaw: In a medium bowl, combine shredded cabbage, chopped cilantro, lime juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss to combine and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Fish: In a shallow dish, whisk together flour, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Add the beer or sparkling water to the flour mixture and whisk until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Heat about 1-2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Dip each fish piece into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  6. Carefully place the battered fish into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
  7. Fry for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the fish from the oil and place on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  9. Warm the tortillas according to package directions.
  10. Assemble the tacos: Fill each tortilla with crispy fish, top with cilantro lime slaw, and add your favorite optional toppings.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying the fish for maximum crispiness.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan when frying to maintain oil temperature and achieve even cooking.
  • Adjust spice levels in the slaw to your preference.
