- 1 pound rigatoni pasta
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (24 ounce) jar marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook rigatoni pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the beef and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, marinara sauce, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
- In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese and the beaten egg. Mix well.
- Spread about half of the cooked rigatoni in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Spoon half of the meat sauce over the pasta.
- Dollop half of the ricotta mixture over the sauce.
- Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella cheese and half of the Parmesan cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining rigatoni, meat sauce, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover the baking dish with foil.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are golden brown.
- Let the bake rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- You can substitute Italian sausage for ground beef for a different flavor profile.
- Ensure your oven is fully preheated for even baking.
