  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound rigatoni pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook rigatoni pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the beef and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, marinara sauce, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  5. In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese and the beaten egg. Mix well.
  6. Spread about half of the cooked rigatoni in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Spoon half of the meat sauce over the pasta.
  8. Dollop half of the ricotta mixture over the sauce.
  9. Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella cheese and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  10. Repeat the layers with the remaining rigatoni, meat sauce, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
  11. Cover the baking dish with foil.
  12. Bake for 20 minutes.
  13. Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are golden brown.
  14. Let the bake rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • You can substitute Italian sausage for ground beef for a different flavor profile.
  • Ensure your oven is fully preheated for even baking.
