  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12 fritters 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the fryer.
  7. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove fritters from the oil and place them on a wire rack to drain.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the batter.
  • If you don’t have a deep fryer, you can use a large pot with high sides.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before adding the batter, or the fritters will be greasy.
  • Serve with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk for added sweetness.
